Dr. Tom Dickey

Dr. Tom has been an associate veterinarian at Sunset Animal Clinic since 1999. He has extensive experience as both a clinical and a research veterinarian. Prior to veterinary school, he worked as a research associate at Emory University and the Oklahoma University Health Services Center. He graduated from Oklahoma State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1992, earning the ACVS and Irwin Awards for the Outstanding Surgery Student. Following graduation, Dr. Tom became the manager of the Laser Surgery Lab at Oklahoma State, where he performed both clinical and research duties.

Since moving to the Northwest and being associated with Sunset Animal Clinic, Dr. Tom has also been a faculty member a the Oregon Health and Sciences University as a Research Instructor in the Department of Neurology, working in the Blood Barrier Program and also at the Oregon Hearing Research Center, focusing on hearing loss caused by anti-cancer agents.

Dr. Tom’s special medical interests include oncologic, soft tissue and thoracic surgery, laser surgery and small animal medicine. His non-medical interests include playing the guitar, farming in a community garden and donating produce from that garden to Neighborhood House, an organization that helps families facing hunger and homelessness.

Dr. Tom’s own pet family includes Cosmo, a Keeshund and former show dog who was returned to his original breeder, and Pip, a bi-polar terrier mix who was adopted and returned from 4 homes in a year. At Dr. Tom’s, Pip hid the first 3 days, but has now found his forever home.
